How to Make an Axe on Minecraft

In the sandbox game "Minecraft," the player is thrust into the world with only his bare fists. You must use your fists to forage for your first materials. Wood and sand are two materials which are easily obtained with bare fists. Wood can make a pickax, though it must first be converted into wooden planks. Creating a pickax is important, as the item harvests materials much faster than fists.

Instructions

  Gather wood. Wood is needed to make wooden planks, a required material to create a crafting bench, sticks and a pickax. To gather wood, hold down the left mouse button in front of a tree. Walk over the harvested wood blocks to add them to your inventory.

  Press "E" to open your inventory.

  Drag the wood into the 2 by 2 grid at the top of the inventory. The box next to the grid, the results box, will display the new item, wooden planks. Click the wooden planks and drag them to an empty slot in your inventory.

  Place one wooden plank into all four of the boxes on the 2 by 2 grid. This creates a crafting bench.

  Drag the crafting bench into the first hot key slot, on the bottom of the screen. Press "E" to close your inventory.

  Right-click a location of your choice to place the crafting bench.

  Right-click the crafting bench. Your inventory will display again, but a 3 by 3 grid will appear instead of a 2 by 2 grid.

  Create sticks. Place two wooden planks into the grid. Sticks will now appear in the results box. Drag them to your inventory.

  Place two sticks and three wooden planks into the grid. This creates a wooden pickax.
