How to Create Your Own DotA Map

Defense of the Ancients (DotA) is a Warcraft III mod. It has become so popular that game companies have emerged specifically to emulate Defense of the Ancients. Many players want to experiment with map creation so they can build their own DotA maps. Luckily, building a custom DotA map is as simple as modifying a basic DotA map template.

  Download the DotA basic map from the Warcraft III custom games menu by joining a game.

  Search the Internet for a DotA map template, such as the popular "DOTA: Free Dota Template 1.0" at World Editor tutorials.

  Open the DotA template in the Warcraft III map editor.

  Access the Terrain folder in the lower left-hand corner.

  Open the terrain folders to modify the terrain of the map, adding or removing terrain features from the basic DotA template.

  Open the Units folder to add destroyable creatures or "creeps" to the map.

  Save the completed DotA map to your computer.

  Upload your map to the Warcraft III custom maps, then host a game to let new players experience your custom DotA map.
