"Europa Universalis III" is a real-time strategy game for the PC that requires the player to control a burgeoning nation as it seeks to expand its borders, namely through conquering other, weaker nations. The third entry in the series added a host of graphical and game play improvements, including adding more 3-D effects to the game's units and map. On top of each nation is a flag, which is flowing through a constant breeze. This can slow down your computer drastically, even though it doesn't add any major contributions to the game play, which is why many players choose to disable the effect.

Start "Europa Universalis III." By default, the game will boot to its main menu.

Click "Settings" from the main menu. A list of all the game's options will appear.

Click the "Graphics" tab. All of the game's graphical options will be displayed.

Click the "Graphical Details" drop-down box and click "Low." This will lower the quality of all the game's textures, but it will cause the flags to stop blowing in the wind.

Click "OK" to save your changes. The flags will not be waving the next time you load the game.
