How to Check If You Have the Requirements for GTA IV

"Grand Theft Auto IV," like previous "GTA" games before it, was ported from its console origins into the land of PC gaming. Most newer computers should be able to run "GTA IV" with little difficulty, but you may have more trouble if your computer is a bit older than most. Grand Theft Auto requires at least an Intel Duo Core 1.8Ghz processor or equivalent, 1GB of RAM, a 256MB Nvidia video card or equivalent, 16GB of free hard drive space and a Windows XP SP3 operating system.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the "Start" menu and select the "Control Panel" option.

    • 2

Double-click the "System" icon. This will bring up the "System Properties" dialog box. This box will show the processor and memory present in your computer in the lower-right corner. Compare this with the minimum system requirements.

    • 3

Close the dialog box and click the "Systems and Properties" icon in the control panel window.

    • 4

Click the "Device Manager" option to open the Device Manager window.

    • 5

Click the "Display Adapter" category to expand the "Display Adapter" tree and display the video card present in your computer. Compare the video card to the minimum requirements.

    • 6

Close the "Device Manager" window and the "Control Panel" window as well.

    • 7

Open "My Computer" and click the drive where you want to install GTA IV. The free space available on the drive will be displayed in the lower-left corner of the window.
