Insert the "Soldier of Fortune" installation disk into your computer with a 256-MB video card. Double-click "My Computer," then double-click "Soldier of Fortune" and double-click "Setup" to install the game.
Follow the step-by-step installation prompts. Start the game by double-clicking the "Soldier of Fortune.exe" shortcut created automatically on the desktop once installation completes.
Click "Options," then click on "Video." Click the drop box next to "Resolution," then click "1600 x 1200" for maximum resolution settings. Click the drop box next to "Detail Texturing," then click "On."
Move the slider beneath "Detail Texturing Range" all the way to the right. Click the drop box next to "Texture Mode," then click "Trilinear." Click the drop box next to "Anisotropic Filtering," then click "On."
Click the drop box next to "Bitdepth," then click "32 Bit." Click the drop box next to "Alternate Simple Textures," then click "Off." Click the drop box next to "Texture Quality," then click "High." Click the drop box next to "Skin Texture Quality," then click "High."
Click the drop box next to "Texture Format," then click "High." Click the drop box next to "Translucent Texture Format," then click "High." Click the "Apply" button on the bottom right corner to save and apply these settings.
Click the "Back" button on the bottom of the screen to return to the start screen. Click "New Game" to begin playing "Soldier of Fortune" tuned optimally for a 256-MB graphics card.
