How to Softmod an Xbox With Mechassault

Softmodding an Xbox allows you to play copies of games you own, without having to insert the original disk. This is great for people who want to keep the original copies of their games in pristine condition, while using a copy in the drive to play the game. This saves scratching the original disk and the copied disk can be easily replaced with another copy from the original if it is ever damaged.

FTP client

Mechassault (Non-Platinum Hits Edition)

Instructions

  Download the "All In One" exploit package. Go to "/server irc.efnet.net." with your IRC client and use the command "/j #xbins" and then "/msg xbins !list." This will get you a message with the log in information for the FTP server upon which the exploit package is stored.

  Direct your FTP client to the correct server and go to "/Xbox/exploits/_Packages/Softmod Installer Deluxe/" and download a file called "Softmod.Installer.Deluxe.v2.0.Xbox-Hq.rar."

  Open the Zip File and extract the Mechassault save game called "Run Linux." Use Action Replay to move this onto the memory card.

  Insert the memory card into the Xbox and load Mechassault. Enter the campaign and load the save game called "Run Linux."

  Backup the contents of your current Xbox using the two options at the top of the menu - "Create MS Backup" and "Create Mod Backup." If anything goes wrong during the process, those files can be used to restore your Xbox.

  Select Install Softmod from the menu. Wait for the mod to finish installing and do not turn off your Xbox or unplug the memory card. Once it has finished, it will return you to the main menu.

  Install the Evolution X or the Unleash X dashboard using one of the last two options in the menu. Once they have finished installing, restart your Xbox and the dashboard of your choice will load, allowing you to play copies of your game discs.
