Build hybrid gem towers rather than pure gem towers. Hybrid gem towers have a greater number of statistical benefits, such as enhancements to damage and range, that pure gem towers lack.
Utilize pure gem towers only when you want to make use of their ability. Pure gems have more powerful abilities than dual towers, so you must find a delicate balance between the power of dual towers and the specialized might of pure gem towers.
Position your towers to cover the maximum amount of range. Corners and any area that causes monsters to loop around back into your range of fire are the best locations for this. Factor in beacons, shards, nests and tombs into your positioning, because these objects must be in range of your towers if you want to damage them.
Place many towers with weaker gems, rather than placing only a few towers with strong gems. This configuration will do more damage overall to opponents.
Include at least one extremely strong tower to counter boss-type monsters, which have very high armor. Multiple small towers will be less effective against bosses.
Click on monsters that are giving you trouble. Clicking a monster not only gives you information about it, but it also forces nearby towers to aim at it. This tactic will give you vital information about the monster's abilities and weaknesses, as well as forcing your towers to destroy it.
Prioritize swarm-type monsters, as they will act as living shields for larger, tougher monsters. It is most efficient to kill them quickly, and then focus on larger monsters.
Lure large monsters into false routes you can close off to create dead ends. Cutting off their routes will force the bosses to turn around and run back the way they came, and back into the range of towers that have already shot them.
React to shield beacons by either destroying them or building a complicated maze to provide enough time for the monsters' shields to wear off.
