How to Install a Purchased Game on a Second Computer

Downloading and installing games that you should pay for without purchasing them is breaking the law. However, when you purchase a game, you may want to use it on more than one computer. Alternatively, you may install the game on your computer, purchase a new computer later, and wish to transfer the game to the new machine. Typically, you may do this as long as you are installing the game for personal use.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the game disc into the second computer the install the game. The process is the same as if you were installing the game onto the first computer.

    • 2

Skip the registration process for the game unless it is required for game operation. In most cases, you are able to skip this step without an impact on the game. Registration is only required the first time you install the game.

    • 3

Copy the download file and any temporary files from the original computer onto a disc for transfer to your second computer if you downloaded the game. Insert the disc into the second computer to transfer the file and go through the installation process dictated by the game.

Log in to the website from which you purchased the downloadable game if you no longer have a copy. Many of the websites that offer downloadable games for purchase keep a record of your purchases. This allows you to reinstall those games on another computer. If there is no record, contact the company to ask it what steps you need to take to recover the game. You may need to supply a credit card number to prove your purchase.
