How to Make Command Scripts for GTA IV

"Grand Theft Auto IV" is an action adventure game available on multiple platforms. It's intensive graphics can perform poorly on many PCs, and gamers who still want to enjoy the title on an older system may need to create a command script to lessen the game's demands. A command script is a simple text file that the player leaves in the "Grand Theft Auto IV" directory, and it gives the game commands about how to operate. These commands can force the game to play in windowed mode, use low quality sound or perform an assortment of other tweaks.

Instructions

    • 1

Click "Start," "Programs," "Accessories" and then "Notepad."

    • 2

Type commands into the text file, such as "-windowed" or "-minspecaud." They all should be a on a single line. Separate them with a single space. A full list of commands is available in the reference section.

    • 3

Press "File" and then "Save." Navigate to your game directory. By default, it installs to "/Program Files/Rockstar Games/Grand Theft Auto IV."

    • 4

Name the file "commandline.txt" -- omitting the quotation marks.

    • 5

      Click "Save."

    • 6

Start "Grand Theft Auto IV." It will read the commands in your script automatically, changing the game's values.
