How to Clear the Smoke & Haze in Bad Company 2

The game "Battlefield: Bad Company 2" is a first person shooter that utilizes unique programming to create a system of environmental damage and weather that adds a degree of complexity to the game. Occasionally the smoke and fog effects can become extremely pronounced, severely limiting visibility to roughly a few feet in front of your player. Fortunately, a modification to some lines of code in the installation of the software can lessen the density of the smog.

Instructions

    • 1

Navigate to the installation drive of "Battlefield" Bad Company 2." For most users, this will be the "C:" drive. In the "User" directory, navigate to and open the "Administrator" folder.

    • 2

Inside the "Administration" folder, open the "My Documents" folder and locate the "Battlefield: Bad Company 2" directory.

    • 3

Inside the "Battlefield: Bad Company 2" folder, locate the "Settings.ini" text file. Right-click on the file and select "Properties."

    • 4

Inside the "Properties" context window, disable the "Read-Only" option, making the file editable. Click "OK" to save the setting.

    • 5

Open the "Settings.ini" text file using a free text editor, such as Wordpad.

    • 6

Find the line of code that begins "MainQuality=" and "Low" or "High" will follow the equals sign. Alter the code to read "MainQuality=Custom."

Launch the game, and the bloom effects that control the fog, smoke and haze should now be disabled
