How to Make a Diablo 2 Play Disk Work on a Virtual Drive

Blizzard's Diablo 2 is a role-playing game that gained extreme popularity on the heels of its predecessor, Diablo. The installation of Diablo 2 requires a disc check and certain files and disc directories to prevent the use of pirated software. Virtual discs can be used in place of real discs and are able to make the game loadable without a disc with the correct placement of files.

Instructions

    • 1

Download the latest game software update from the Blizzard website. Check that the patch is version number 1.12 or higher, then install the update.

    • 2

Open the Play disc on the virtual drive by double-clicking it, then open the Diablo 2 directory on your computer in a separate window.

    • 3

Click and drag the file named "D2Music.mpq" from the Diablo 2 disc to the Diablo 2 directory on your computer. Drag the file named "D2xMusic.mpq" if you are using the Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction play disc.

    • 4

Rename the file "D2Music.mpq" to "Diablo II Music" and "D2xMusic.mpq" to "Diablo II Expansion Music" if you are using a Mac. Windows users may skip this step.
