Enter the town of Megaton. If you have a lockpick skill of 50 or higher, go to the first home on the right and pick the lock to enter the home of Lucas Simms, the Megaton Sheriff. Alternatively, players can crouch and pickpocket Simms' house key. If Simms gets killed, players can also find his house key on his body.
Move to the second floor of Simms' house and exit from a hatch found on this floor to access the roof. Move up the stairs by the roof until you can walk no further. Keep your character's view focused on the antennae at this location. Turn away from the antennae and leap onto the railing to the left. Walk along the railing until you reach the fuselage, which makes up the roof of Simms' house.
Examine the fuselage and jump until you stand atop it. Move to the right along the plane body until you reach the end. The wall of Megaton now lies in front of the player's character. Look down to see it.
Jump over the outer wall of Megaton. You may not make the jump, and the character may be injured. Use Stimpaks or other healing items to heal crippling and improve health. Repeat all steps and attempt to jump over the outer wall of Megaton again. Once characters exit Megaton, the exterior of the town looks as it does without the glitch. However, players will not find the typical landmarks outside of Megaton, such as other characters or buildings. The game will likely freeze as a result of the glitch.
