How to Avoid the Monster in the SkiFree Game

"SkiFree" is a simple skiing game developed by Chris Pirih for computers. Players start the game at the top of a slope and can speed down any of three race courses. The simple control scheme makes the trip down to the finish line a frustration-free experience. However, there is danger inhabiting the slopes in the form of the Abominable Snow Monster. This creature swallows those who stray too far from the course. The monster can be avoided by sticking to the center of the slope, and can be outraced with the assistance of a few keyboard commands.

Instructions

Preventing the Monster's Appearance

  Avoid going in reverse at the starting line. If you hold the up arrow on your keyboard at the start of a game, you can ascend the slope; however, when you reach a distance of -126 m the monster will be waiting to eat you.

  Do not veer too far from the race course. Abominable Snow Monsters wait at the side edges of the map. Move too far to the left or right and your lollygagging will come to a violent end.

  Press "F2" to begin a new game after you reach the finish line. Unfortunately, the game doesn't end after the race is over, leaving the player to ski aimlessly down the slope. When you reach a distance of 2,001 m you'll be digested by the beast.
Outracing the Monster

  Press the "F" key on your keyboard to speed up. With one press of the button, your character will move down the slope much faster.

  Avoid the objects that litter the slope. Use the arrow keys to steer around these obstacles. If you happen to hit a fellow skier or a tree, the Monster may catch up to you.

  Press "F3" on your keyboard to pause the game. If you find you are still crashing a lot due to the "F" key boost, you can press the "T" key while paused to advance the game forward by a single frame. Use the "T" key in conjunction with the arrow keys to avoid all obstacles and ditch the Abominable Snow Monster for good.
