How to Get Ranged Up in Runescape

Purchase a short bow, oak short bow, willow short bow, maple short bow, coif, cowl, leather body, leather chaps, studded chaps, vambraces, greenhide armor, 2,000 bronze arrows and food from the Grand Exchange in Varrock. With the exception of purchasing more arrows and food, this is all the equipment you will need to reach Level 99 ranged.

Equip your short bow, leather armor set and arrows and head out to kill chickens. Chicken farms can be found at two locations north of Lumbridge. Kill chickens from Levels 1 to 30. Pick up the raw chicken to cook for food and feathers to sell for money at the Grand Exchange so you can buy more arrows.

Head toward the cows at the northeastern corner of Lumbridge around Level 20 ranged if you get tired of killing chickens. Cows provide good experience and lucrative drops, including cow hide, which can be sold at the Grand Exchange. Kill cows until Level 35 ranged.

Kill minotaurs at the Stronghold of Security, located at the heart of Barbarian Village. Minotaurs drop lots of iron arrows, so you should not ever need to buy more from the Grand Exchange. There are two kinds of minotaurs; you can kill the Level 12 minotaurs near the entrance of the Stronghold starting at Level 1 ranged. You should start killing Level 27 minotaurs at Level 25 ranged. You can stay with the minotaurs until approximately Level 65, or stop at Level 40.

Slay hill giants in the Edgeville dungeon from Levels 40 to 99. Be sure to pick up the key to the dungeon, located just outside of the room of hill giants, so you have quick access to the hill giants after returning from a trip to the bank. Hill giants drop valuable items, such as big bones, and expensive runes that can be sold at the Grand Exchange. There are also lots of safe zones where the hill giants cannot damage you while you shoot them down, so if you want to conserve money, you do not have to buy food.
