How to Stretch a Resolution in Baldur's Gate

"Baldur's Gate" is a role-playing game released by Interplay in 1998. At the time of release, widescreen monitors for consumer users weren't common, so games like "Baldur's Gate" do not support widescreen or large resolutions. However, gamers who wish to partake in the world of "Baldur's Gate" using the resolutions supported by their modern displays can do so in one of two ways: using EasyTutu, which utilizes the "Baldur's Gate II" engine to run "Baldur's Gate," or by installing the Widescreen Mod, which enables widescreen resolutions.

Things You'll Need

  • "Baldur's Gate" full installation, with latest official patch
  • "Baldur's Gate II" full installation (if using EasyTutu)
  • "Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast" expansion pack full installation (if using the Widescreen Mod)

Instructions

  1. Using EasyTutu

    • 1

      Download the latest version of EasyTutu from the official website. If playing without the expansion pack installed, download the Shadows of Amn file. If you are playing with Throne of Bhaal installed, download the Throne of Bhaal file.

      Double-click on the downloaded installation program. Click "Install" to unpack the installation files and run the setup program. Click "Next."

      Click "Normal" if you wish to install EasyTutu in a separate directory, allowing you to play "Baldur's Gate" unmodified at any time. Click "Space Saver" if you wish to merge the "Baldur's Gate" directory with EasyTutu, saving disk space.

      Click "Browse," select the directory where "Baldur's Gate" is installed and click "OK."

      Download the EasyTutu hotfixes file from the website and launch the downloaded program.

      Click "Install" to install the hotfix file into the EasyTutu installation.

    Using the Widescreen Mod

      Download the latest version of the Widescreen Mod from the Gibberlings 3 website.

      Double-click on the downloaded setup program.

      Click "Install" to unpack the setup files. The installer will automatically find the "Baldur's Gate" directory and install the Widescreen Mod.
