One of the major features of "The Sims 3" is the ability to create a house from scratch. A variety of tools are available for this purpose. Various walls, floors and staircases may be placed as you create your Sim's home. A house can be a single story or multiple stories. If you create a multiple story home, you will need to place a staircase to allow access to the upper levels. If you need to delete a misplaced staircase, you can use the "Sledge Hammer Tool."

Press the "Build Mode" icon.

Click the "Sledge Hammer Tool" icon.

Click on the stairs you wish to delete. The "Sledge Hammer" tool will delete the stairs.
