How to Plant Wheat in Minecraft

In Markuss Person's popular independent sandbox PC game "Minecraft," players collect resources to build structures, craft items and battle enemies. Wheat is an important ingredient in several "craftable" food items players consume to replenish their character's health. Because wheat does not occur naturally in the "Minecraft" landscape, players must collect and cultivate seeds to obtain it. Although wheat takes several days to fully mature, players can place crops strategically to reduce this time.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate a patch of tall grass on the ground. Face the grass, and click on the patch to destroy it. Each destroyed patch of tall grass changes to drop wheat seeds. Walk over the seeds to automatically add them to your inventory.

    • 2

Place stone, iron, gold or diamond blocks in the second and third squares of your crafting grid, and sticks in the fifth and eighth squares to craft a hoe. Click on the hoe in the output box of your crafting window, and drag it to your inventory. Use your mouse's scroll wheel to equip the hoe.

    • 3

Right-click on the surface of a soil block to till it with your hoe. Soil adjacent to water blocks becomes saturated after tilling, allowing your wheat to mature more rapidly.

    • 4

Use your scroll wheel to equip your seeds, and right-click on the tilled surface to plant the seeds. The growth time for wheat in "Minecraft" is variable, dependent upon proximity to water and exposure to light sources, but generally takes several days. A wheat plant is fully grown when it develops a tall, golden-brown appearance. Left-click on mature wheat to harvest it.
