How to Start a StarCraft Clan
Set up accounts with Battle.net and International Cyber Cup (iCCup) server on "StarCraft." You will need a legitimate copy of "StarCraft" in order to access Battle.net, but not with iCCup. In your account name, specify your allegiance to your new clan by adding a tag. A tag is an abbreviation of your clan name. It should be easily distinguished from your player name, and related to the name of your clan. This tag will be used by every member when they are recruited.
Set up a channel in the Battle.net server for your members to meet up and chat. To set up a channel, click on the channel button on the top left of the Battle.net screen after logging on. At the right of the screen, there should be a text box that asks for you to specify a channel to join. Enter your channel's name. If the channel you were sent to is empty, claim it as your own.
Set up a bot in your new channel to officially claim it as your own, and to provide it with adequate moderation. Stealthbot is a very popular choice for StarCraft players to use in their channel moderation. The bot is safe to download and is very easy to use. Stealthbot will allow you to ban and silence players who are bothering you and your clan mates.
Set up a website to provide Internet exposure to your clan. A website is a great recruitment, community, and organizational tool. Purchase a domain to provide a professional address for your website. Be sure to include a forum for your players to discuss strategies or make appointments for practice sessions. Create community sections such as tutorials, clan news, and clan statistics to update your clan mates on proceedings, and to entertain and impress clanless StarCraft players. Also provide information on how to apply for your clan so that those who are interested in joining can do so conveniently.
Actively recruit members into your clan by playing in tournaments and advertising the website. Amateur StarCraft tournaments are teeming with clanless talents just waiting to be picked up. By playing in tournaments, you get the opportunity to test these players and reach out to them. You can also play on iCCup servers, which are more competitive than Battle.net servers to recruit talented players. The TeamLiquid website is a very active community for people to sign up for tournaments and reach out to other StarCraft players. Sign up for an account with them and participate in the community. Their forums are a great place to advertise your clan and your clan's website.
Provide activities for your clan mates by starting periodic tournaments and practice sessions. Have a small prize for the winner of every tournament to keep your players motivated and energetic about StarCraft. Also, practice with your clan mates frequently. Clans provide a competitive environment for players to hone their skills while having social interaction and fun.
Keep in contact with all of your players. Require your clan mates to sign up in your clan's forum, get their email addresses, and open up a Ventrilo server or use Skype. Ventrilo and Skype will allow your clan mates to have video conferences so that they can see each other. It provides convenience and more social interaction for your clan.
Play in tournaments and clan wars with your clan mates to garner a reputation for your clan. The TeamLiquid community is a great place to find tournaments to play in and other clans to interact with. iCCup also hosts clan wars and provides ladder rankings for clans.
