How Not to Lose Your Characters in The Sims 2

"The Sims 2" gives players the chance to play through the simulated life of a virtual avatar called a Sim. However, even a Sim life must eventually come to an end, much to the chagrin of the player who spent so long working on the Sim just to lose it. There are a few ways that players can lose their Sims in "The Sims 2." An adult Sim can die by accidental death or old age. Young Sims can die, but in most cases that which kills an adult Sim will cause a child Sim to be taken away by social services instead. In either case, you will lose your Sim forever unless you take steps to prevent it from happening.

Instructions

  1. Preventing Accidental Death

    • 1

Purchase a fire alarm and place one in any room in your Sim's house where there is a fire or stove. When fires occur, the alarm will alert the fire department. Keep your Sim away from the fire to prevent accidental burning. If your Sim tries to fight the fire himself, cancel his actions and make him move away from the fire. Prevent fires by keeping flammable items away from fireplaces and stoves. Likewise, have your Sim read books on cooking to increase his cooking skill before allowing him to use the stove.

    • 2

Call for repair services whenever something breaks in your Sim's home. This will prevent accidental electrocution from a botched do-it-yourself repair. Have your Sim read books on repair or practice on non-electrical items like the toilet or shower to increase her handiness skill. The higher the handiness skill, the less chance there is of accidental electrocution. Always clean up any puddles on the ground before attempting a repair, as the combination of a wet floor and an electric repair will kill even the most skilled Sim.

    • 3

Clear your swimming pool of any obstruction that would prevent your Sim from getting out of the pool. Make sure there is at least one square of free space around each side of the pool so Sims can walk freely. Monitor your Sims when they are swimming and never let them swim for too long. If they get fatigued while swimming, they can drown.

    • 4

Quarantine any sick Sims to prevent infection spreading to the other Sims. The most common way to cure a Sim illness is with rest, so send the Sim to bed until he is well again. If you have a Sim with a high logic skill, he can create a cure using the Simsanto Inc. Biotech Station reward item.

    • 5

Clean your house on a daily basis to avoid having your Sims eaten to death by flies. This also will prevent your Sims from catching a disease. Hire a maid if your Sim does not like cleaning.

    • 6

Fulfill your Sim's needs to keep him healthy and happy. If four or more of your Sim's needs drop to zero at one time, the Sim will die or, if he's a child, be taken by social services. Make sure you have all the necessary items in your Sim's home, including a refrigerator, toilet, shower and bed. Likewise, make sure your Sim's home layout is ideal so the Sim will not be stuck in a room without access to the items that fulfill his needs.

    • 7

Plead with the Grim Reaper whenever he appears to take your Sim away. This is a random chance event, but your Sim has a better chance of convincing the Grim Reaper if he has a high relationship level to the dead Sim. Sims who die of old age cannot be saved by pleading. The only way to prevent a Sim from dying of old age is through cheat codes.

    Preventing Death from Old Age

    • 8

Open the cheat command console by pressing "Shift," "CTRL" and "C" on your computer keyboard.

    • 9

Type in the cheat code "aging off" and press enter to turn off the aging feature. Now your elderly Sims will not die from old age; however, they can still die by accidental death.

    • 10

Type in the cheat code "aging on" if you would like to restore the aging process.
