How to Be a Two-Handed Weapon Warrior in Dragon Age: Origins

BioWare's 2009 single-player roleplaying game "Dragon Age: Origins" pays homage to the company's award-winning "Baldur's Gate" series of the 1990s. Set in the mythical realm of Ferelden, "Dragon Age: Origins" allows players to choose one of six archetypal fantasy characters to play. One of these archetypes is the warrior, a powerful melee fighter that deals damage or absorbs a foe's attack. Heavy-hitting, two-handed weapons are the sole province of warriors.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the "new game" button to enter the character selection screen upon starting the game.

    • 2

Pick the character's gender from the two choices at the top right of the character creation screen. Although gender does not influence the main character's abilities, it does affect the storyline and romance options.

    • 3

Choose the main character's race from among the three options on the second row of the right side of the screen. Dwarves, elves and humans can all become warriors, but each race has its own strengths and weaknesses. Dwarves have high constitutions, elves are agile and humans follow a middle course between the other two races.

    • 4

Pick the warrior class from among the available options.

    • 5

Select a background from the bottom row of choices on the right side of the screen. Note that previous race and class choices limit background options.

    • 6

Customize the character's appearance and click the "Next" button at the bottom of the screen to proceed through customization options and reach the skill allocation window.

    • 7

Spend the initial five skill points as desired. Warriors typically focus on strength and dexterity. Strength influences the power of the character's strikes, while agility determines accuracy and hit chances. Click "Next" when no skill points remain.

    • 8

Examine the character's available skills and select one that is likely to fit a physical fighter's needs. Survival, Herbalism and Combat Skills can all benefit a warrior depending on the player's play style. Click "Next" after choosing a skill.

    • 9

Scroll down and find the "Two Handed" talent section on the right side of the character creation screen. Spend one or both of the available talent points on two-handed weapon skills. Some players prefer to put one skill point into general warrior skills and the other into a two-handed weapon skill, while others allocate both starting skill points to two-handed weaponry.

    • 10

Click the "Start" button to begin the game and watch the opening cut-scene to see the main character's origin story unfold.
