How to Configure a Controller in Mame for Rotary

"Mame" is a program for the PC that allows users to play a variety of arcade games that include games from the distant past to the fairly recent. By default, the controllers are set up for a keyboard and mouse, but you can play all the games for the program by using a joystick if you want to create a more realistic arcade feel. Additionally, the joystick is preferred among many of the program's players because it can can give increased mobility, particularly when you need to rotate the stick from one side to the other, unlike a keyboard and mouse combination.

  Attach your joystick to your computer. By default, your computer will automatically download and install any necessary drivers to utilize the software.

  Start Mame by opening it from the start menu or double-clicking its desktop icon.

  Click "Default Game Options" from the "Options" menu on the program's top toolbar. A small menu will appear.

  Click the "Controllers" tab and then "Enable Joystick Input." Click the "Apply" button and then "OK" to close the window and save your changes.

  Start a game in the emulator that you want to use a joystick with.

  Press the "Tab" key when the game loads. A small menu will appear.

  Click the "Input Options (General)" and another menu will appear. By default, the "Player 1" tab will be activated. All of the current controls for Player 1 are listed.

  Click on one of the controls you would like to change and press the "Enter" key. The field will become temporarily blank.

  Move the joystick in the desired direction or press the button you want to assign to the specified control. Continue to choose controls and input new controls until all the desired controls have been chosen.

  Press the "Escape" button until you return to the menu that was created by pressing the "Tab" key.

  Click "Other Input Options" from the menu. The two controls "Insert Coin" and "Start Player 1" will be displayed.

  Change the controls to fit your joystick. Once finished, press the "Escape" key to begin playing the game with your joystick.
