How to Overclock FPS in Games

Overclocking means making something run faster. If you want to "overclock" your computer games you can increase your FPS, or frames per second. There are a number of ways to improve a game's performance, squeezing out faster framerates and making the screen appear less choppy.

  Change your in-game graphics settings for smoother framerates. Reducing or turning off antialiasing and anisotropic filtering can have a dramatic impact on your frames per second, as can changing to a smaller screen resolution. If the framerate is still below par, try reducing the texture resolution and draw distance, or even turn off the shadows to give your graphics card less work to do.

  Get better hardware for better results. Adding extra RAM will help increase framerates and actually improve your computer's performance overall. Buying a newer graphics card can also have a significant impact on your frames per second. Note that these will both cost some money and will require you to open up your computer and insert the new components.

  Overclock your graphics card or CPU, tricking it into running faster than it was designed to do. This is a complicated process that varies between devices and will both void your warranty and potentially reduce the card's lifespan.
