How to Create Your Own FPS Horror Game

The acronym "FPS" stands for "First Person Shooter." In a FPS game, gamers fight enemies from a first person perspective, meaning the player views the game through the eyes of the character he or she controls. This typically means you will see the arms, hands and weapon of your character's body. Many popular games are FPS games, and some emphasize horror, especially in a science-fiction setting. It is possible to create a FPS of any genre, including horror, using software created for the purpose, even if you aren't a programmer!

  Write a story that incorporates horror elements and will inform the rest of your plan. Include elements such as zombies, monsters, or other any other elements that will cause players to feel the dread and fear associated with the horror genre.

  Conduct an Internet search for "FPS creator" or "First Person Shooter" to find and download software that allows a hobbyist, even one with no programming skills, to create a FPS game.

  Create a character for players to control, and give him or her a weapon; you can't have a first person shooter without a weapon!

  Create maps for the player to navigate. Incorporate settings appropriate for a horror game, such as an abandoned building, dark field, or rotting boat. Add dark and grungy elements.

  Create enemies for the player to shoot that are consistent with the story and general horror theme of the game.

  Add a point system and rewards, such as amulets, that give your character additional lives or special powers, such as the ability to see through walls.
