How to Do an Emergency Landing on Flight Simulator X

"Flight Simulator X" is a simulator game for the PC that allows players to realistically fly many different types of planes from a small, two-engine plane to a massive 747. The game requires players to go through a series of checklists before and after each flight, as you would if you were a pilot in real life, but the game is missing an important component of every flight-training simulator: emergency landings. An add-on for the game, called "Radar Contact," will occasionally cause a small disaster to occur to your plane, requiring an emergency landing that is not for the faint of heart.

Instructions

Purchase and install the add-on pack "Radar Contact." You can purchase the add-on from the developer's website (see Resources) and will be physically delivered to you via the delivery option of your choice. To install the pack, insert the pack's discs and follow the installation prompt. It's no different than other installation prompts, as it too requires you to agree to the add-on's "Terms of Use" and select your "Flight Simulator X" folder to install the files to.

Start the game and begin a flight. The "Radar Contact" add-on is automatically loaded with the game and will randomly cause a mechanical malfunction on your plane that will force you to make an emergency landed. Once this happens, your navigation system will automatically be updated to the new emergency landing zone.

Land the plane to complete the emergency landing. Depending on the type of mechanical failure, the plane may be harder to land than normal, especially if one of the engines fail. Just try to keep the plane level and descend as you normally would to avoid causing further damage to your plane.
