How to Easily Trap Animals in Minecraft

"Minecraft" is a computer game where success lies in harvesting resources. If you play with monsters enabled, the only way to get back your health is by eating food that animals produce. Because they are free-roamers, animals can sometimes be hard to find in a pinch unless you can trap them. Like your character, animals cannot jump more than a block high, so the easiest way to trap a stock of animals for yourself is to dig a deep enough ditch.

Instructions

    • 1

Scroll through your equipment until your character holds a shovel. While this is not necessary to dig a hole in dirt, gravel or sand, it does make it go quicker.

    • 2

Hold the left mouse button on the tile you want to dig.

    • 3

Make a large enough square to support the amount of animals you want to hold. For example, a 2-by-2 square is sufficient for one animal, but you may want a 10-by-10 square to hold a whole herd.

    • 4

Dig another equally-sized layer. After you are done, you should have dug two layers deep of the square size you want. This is shallow enough to prevent the animals from dying when they fall but deep enough so they cannot get out. This lets you continually come back and harvest resources from the same animals.
