Things You'll Need
Instructions
Enter the Cloister of Fire, where Ifrit is located, on Watersday. This is indicated by the blue day symbol on the screen. Fighting Ifrit on Watersday is not required, but it makes the fight easier. During Watersday, most of Ifrit's attacks are 10 percent less effective.
Cast Barfire, Shell, Protect and any other enhancement spells immediately after entering the Cloister of Fire. Do this before you advance any further. Ifrit can sense magic being used from a distance, and he immediately attacks anyone that uses magic within this detection range. The entrance is far enough away from Ifrit -- he won't be able to detect your magic use.
Provoke Ifrit with the character that is going to be tanking the encounter. Paladins and Ninjas are usually the most effective tanks against Ifrit.
Heal the tank with the character who serves as the healer.
Attack Ifrit with the remaining characters. Water attacks work the most effectively against Ifrit. Fire damage attacks should never be used against Ifrit; these attacks heal him. Ice attacks also do not work effectively on him. All the other damage types work normally.
Run about 30 feet from the tank when Ifrit's hit points (HP) are about to fall to 50 percent. He uses a powerful area attack called Inferno when his HP hits 50 percent. Make sure only the tank character gets hit by this attack. Inferno deals large amounts of damage and can potentially kill off party members that have been previously wounded in the fight. However, this attack is substantially less threatening at levels above 75.
Repeat Steps 3, 4 and 5 until Ifrit dies. Don't worry about Inferno; he only uses this once during the entire fight.
