What Do I Need to Do to Reinstall Guild Wars on a New OP System?

The video game "Guild Wars" still might work as-is after upgrading your computer's operating system. However, perform a fresh installation to keep the game running in an optimal state. There are two ways to reinstall the game content: using the game's optical media discs or using the download client. Fortunately, the game stores all of your character data with your account on a server, meaning you can play your characters from any installation on any computer and you don't have to worry about losing your progress when reinstalling.

Delete Existing Installation
- Installing a new OS over another is often associated with creating poor performance circumstances, which leads computer experts to recommend clearing your entire hard drive when installing a new OS. The new OS has to backtrack over the installation of the old OS, which can create several compatibility problems - -one of these issues can prevent "Guild Wars" from running. Every bit of information that's stored on your computer for the game program -- with the exception of screen shots - -is 100 percent replaceable in a re-installation. To remove "Guild Wars," click on the "Start Menu," "Control Panel," "Add/Remove Programs," select the Guild Wars program from the list, and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the removal. If it does not appear on this list, you can just delete the game folder, which can be found under "My Computer," "Program Files", and "Guild Wars" in Windows Explorer under the default setup options.
Reinstall Guild Wars with Disks
- You can reinstall most of the Guild Wars data by using the game installation discs that came with the game. You can install the original game and all three expansions to minimize the amount of downloading needed to get the game up-and-running again. You can start by inserting "Disc 1" of the original game and following the on-screen instructions. Repeat the process for each of the expansions.
Reinstall Guild Wars with Download Client
- You can download the installer for the Guild Wars Download Client in the Resources section. To use the Download Client, open the downloaded program and follow the on-screen instructions to download and install all "Guild Wars" content. This process is easier than using the game discs, but significantly more time-consuming since the computer has to download the game data over the Internet.
Wait for Patches to Update after Installation
- Launch the "Guild Wars" program after you have finished installing the program by optical disc or by download. When the game hits the title screen, it will begin downloading all game patches and updates not included in the installer program(s). You can wait for the game to finish download all the patches before playing to experience the smoothest possible gaming experience. Additionally, some of the patches may require that you quit and reload the game to install.
