How to Get Steel on Minecraft

"Minecraft" is an independent sandbox video game in which players are free to build anything they want as long as they mine the correct materials and craft the tools they need. One of the useful materials in the game is iron, a metal that players often mistakenly refer to as steel. (Steel can't be found in "Minecraft.") Iron can serve many purposes, including crafting the tool flint and steel (flint plus iron ingot) for creating fire. There are three types of iron in the game: iron ore, iron ingots and iron blocks.

Instructions

    • 1

Mine within the elevation range 0 to 67 with a stone, iron or diamond pickaxe to successfully extract iron ore, which is iron in its raw material form. Iron ore blocks are grey with tan colored veins of ore.

    • 2

Smelt the iron ore in a furnace to create the iron ingot, which is the form of iron from which most practical items are crafted. To do so, right click on your furnace block and mix coal with iron ore. Iron ingots also can sometimes be found in dungeon chests.

    • 3

Place nine iron ingots on a crafting bench to craft the iron block. Other items that can be crafted using iron ingots include swords, armor, tools, doors, compasses and flint and steel.
