How to Create Runes in Gothic 2

Gain entry to the Monastery in Chapter 1. Talk to Pedro, who guards the Monastery gates, and you will receive a new quest that leads to becoming a "Fire Mage." Return to Pedro with a live sheep (purchased from Pepe at "Onar's Farm") and 1,000 gold to enter.

Read books in the library until you learn of the "Test of Fire." Talk to Hyglas, Parlan and Pyrokar in the Monastery and continually demand to take the test. You must now complete all of the quests issued by the Monastery council members to become a "Fire Mage."

Choose a spell to create and complete the requirements of the "circle" it falls under. Becoming a "Fire Mage" and completing the game's chapters will allow you to access circles one, two, three and five. Access circle four by restoring power to the "Eye of Innos" in chapter 3. Gain circle five by obtaining (and examining) the "Sea Chart to Isle of Irdorath" in the cellar of the Monastery.

Learn the spell from teachers within the Monastery. Hyglas, Parlan, Marduk, Karras, Milten and Pyrokar teach your character spells at the cost of five learning points (provided you've attained the required circle).

Purchase the ability to create runes from the Monastery teachers. This costs five learning points.

Consult the books in the Monastery's library to learn about the ingredients necessary to create a spell. Obtain one of each of the required ingredients and keep these in your inventory. Spell ingredients can be picked from the ground in the game world, looted from fallen enemies or purchased from merchants.

Obtain a blank rune. One is provided during the completion of the "Test of Fire" quests. Several blank runes can be purchased from the character Gorax during certain points in the game (find him in the Monastery).

Find a scroll that matches the spell you wish to create. For example, if you want to create a "Fire Arrow" rune, get a "Fire Arrow" scroll. Many of these spell scrolls can be purchased from "Fire Mages" in the Monastery, including Gorax, Karras and Isgaroth.

Use the "Rune Table," located in your character's room within the Monastery. With all of the ingredient and component requirements fulfilled, you will be given the option to create a rune for a specific spell. Once you've created a rune, you will be able to cast that spell endlessly in the game.
