What Are Tower Wars in Battle for Middle-Earth?

"Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-Earth" is a real-time strategy computer game based on J.R.R. Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings" series, and its accompanying movie adaptations. Users can play it through virtual private networking programs in various game modes, including "Tower Wars," which offer a unique twist on the basic one-on-one gameplay. EA allows users to create these maps using a map editor. The maps can be released on file and map-sharing sites.
  1. Objective

    • In a tower war, each player uses buildings instead of men to attack the enemy. Each player begins at a pre-determined spot on the map, such as a corner, designated by a color. The game progresses through rounds, with waves of a pre-determined number of enemies attempting to reach the goal at the end of the path. During each round, players construct multiple buildings, called towers, along the pathway to attack the enemies. You and your teammates are successful if you can kill all enemies in each round before they reach the goal.

    Enemies

    • Waves of enemies move along a designated path to try to reach a goal, typically the center of the map. Some maps have one spawn point, with each user given opportunities to destroy the units; most have separate spawn points for each player to focus on defeating. Depending on the map, there may be a number of spawn points that release enemies, regardless of how many players are in the game.

    Players

    • Each tower map supports multi-player capabilities to allow you to play with your friends against the computer. You must work together as a team to conquer the enemy forces, instead of taking on the traditional goal of defeating the individual you're playing the game against.

    Rewards

    • Each enemy you kill gives you a set amount of money, depending on its difficulty and which level of the map you're on. Use the money to build stronger towers, which are a necessity as you get further into the game and face stronger enemies.
