How to Turn the Grass Off in ArmA 2

ArmA 2 is the 2009 sequel to 2006's Armored Assault, the spiritual successor to the PC military sim Operation Flashpoint. The ArmA series is known not only for its intricate simulation of equipment, vehicles and small squad tactics, but also for its extreme graphical fidelity. The modeling of dense, tall grass creates attractive and impressive environments, but places a huge strain on your graphics processor as well as creating disadvantages; for example, your enemies may see you hiding in grass, whereas it is impossible for you to easily detect them.

Instructions

    • 1

Download ArmA FPS Helper and extract it to your "Arma2\addons\FPS Helper" directory. If FPS Helper is an EXE rather than a ZIP file, have it create the folder "Arma2\addons\FPS Helper."

    • 2

Download and install the ArmA Launcher, which automatically detects where you have ArmA 2 installed. Start the ArmA Launcher from the start menu, then click "Options," then "Mods." Type in "FPS Helper," then select the "Arma2\addons\FPS Helper" folder and click okay. Check the box for "FPS Helper," then click "Launch Singleplayer" or "Launch Multiplayer."

Enter the game and explore a level. Foliage should be greatly diminished, particularly grass.
