How to Beat the Need Before Greed Loot in EQ2

"Everquest 2," an online role-playing game released for the PC in 2004, has seen a number of changes over the years, including to how players win loot when grouped together. Update 43 introduced the Need Before Greed looting system, which allows each member of the group to declare whether they need an item, if they don't care if they win it or not or if they do not want it at all. The window appears automatically when a piece of loot is found. Once all choices are made, the player with the largest random number out of 100 wins the item, with priority given to need over greed.

Instructions

    • 1

Select "Need" if the item is an upgrade to a current piece of armor or weapon. If you are the only person who selects "Need," you automatically win the item because "Need" has priority over all other choices.

    • 2

Select "Greed" if you are planning to sell the item, either to a vendor or to another player.

    • 3

Select "Decline" if you do not wish to receive the item at all.

    • 4

Wait for all players to make a choice or until the timer, shown underneath the "Loot" window, runs out. Random dice rolls out of 100 are performed automatically and shown in your text box. The player with the highest dice roll wins the item. For example, if you rolled a 98 and your friend rolls a 54, both in the "Need" category, the item is automatically deposited into your inventory.
