How to Install Tss Audio Packs

TSS, or Turbine Sound Studios, creates and sells audio packs for the flight simulation games "Flight Simulator X" and "Flight Simulator 2004." These packs are designed to provide higher-quality, more realistic sound. However, after purchasing and downloading one or more of these packs for your games, you may not know how to install them. TSS does not provide installation instructions on its site. Despite this lack of instruction, you can install these packs yourself without contacting TSS customer service.

Instructions

  Locate your downloaded TSS audio pack. Your Internet browser may have placed this pack in your "Downloads" folder. Click "Start," then type the name of the pack into the search field if you have difficulty finding the pack. Right-click the pack name from the list of files and click "Open file location."

  Right-click your shortcut for either "Flight Simulator X" or "Flight Simulator 2004." Click "Properties." Note the installation path. For example, yours might read "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Flight Simulator X."

  Click "Start," then "Computer." Double-click the drive name on which the game is installed. For example, "Local Disk (C:)." Follow the installation path you noted in the previous step to find the installation folder.

  Check your audio pack to see which aircraft sounds are included. Locate those aircraft folders in your game installation directory. Rename the "soundai" folder for each plan to "soundaibackup" to create a backup of the old files.

  Locate the folder named "soundfolder" for each aircraft in the audio pack. Copy and paste this folder into the game installation directory folder for that aircraft. Right-click each pasted folder, click "Rename" and change the names to "soundai." You may not have to rename the folder from the audio pack if it is already labeled "soundai." If this is this case, rename the original folder in your game directory so you don't overwrite the old files.
