How to Tame Large Animals in Dwarf Fortress

Toady One released the computer game "Slaves to Armok: God of Blood Chapter II: Dwarf Fortress," more commonly known as "Dwarf Fortress," in 2006. If one of your dwarfs is an animal trainer, he can tame large animals that wander into your cage traps. The animals then become your war fighting machines during the seasonal goblin and kobold invasions. Having large tamed animals trained for war can make all the difference between surviving and succumbing to those lethal invasions.

Instructions

    • 1

Build a kennel. Open the "Build" menu and select "Kennel." Select the area of the map where you want to build the kennel. The animal trainer will immediately set to work on its construction.

    • 2

Build a cage trap. This is also in the "Build" menu, but you must have a mechanic to construct it because it uses a mechanism in its construction.

    • 3

Select the cage trap after you receive a message that it contains an animal. Press "Q" and select "Tame Hunting Animal" or "Train War Animal," depending on which you want. The animal trainer will take the large animal to the kennel and automatically tame it.
