How to Stretch the Screen in 'World of Warcraft'

Playing "World of Warcraft" with a black strip on either side of the screen means the game's resolution is set to a standard monitor, instead of a widescreen monitor. Because of this, the game screen appears in the shape of a square, rather than a rectangle. While the appearance doesn't affect the game itself, it may cause difficulty while you're battling enemies, since you cannot see everything as clearly. A quick change of the resolution will remedy the problem.

Instructions

    • 1

Press "Esc" while in the game to view the main menu. Click "Options." If you are not logged into the game, click "Options" at the login screen.

    • 2

Click the "Resolution" box at the top. A list of available resolutions will appear.

    • 3

Click one of the "Wide" resolutions. Click "OK." If your monitor supports the resolution, your screen will appear black for a moment, and the game will quickly return stretched across the screen. If your monitor does not support the resolution, your screen will remain black for a few seconds, before reverting back to the previous resolution. If that occurs, choose a lower resolution.
