How to Disable Mipmaps on TF2

"Team Fortress 2" is a first-person shooter for the PC that features stylized graphics, largely in an attempt to make the game easier to run on computer systems with less-than-impressive hardware. However, the game still features many colorful effects and high pixel counts, which can be a problem for the aforementioned computer users. Luckily, Valve, the game's developer, provides the option to disable mipmapping, which is a feature that takes a considerable amount of system resources but makes the game's graphics appear crisp.

Instructions

    • 1

Enter a match in "Team Fortress 2." You can enter any type of match you like. You will just need to be able to access the Console screen, which can be done from any mode in the game.

    • 2

Open the Console screen by pressing the tilde key (~). A menu and a box with lots of text will appear.

    • 3

Type "r_textureMode GL_LINEAR" without the quotation marks into the box. The game will prompt you that it needs to restart. When it does so, mipmapping will be disabled.
