Mac Menu Problems -- No Text in Menu or on Buttons
A common problem experienced by Mac users playing Age of Empires III: Asian Dynasties is missing text, such as the text that identifies buttons and menu items. It is easy to fix: access the main computer screen and locate the Age of Empires III icon. Right-click the icon and select "show package contents." Then go to "Resources," then "Game data FR." Select "Fonts." Open the file "Fonts2.xml." That fixes the text problem in Macs.
PC Menu Problems -- Black or Fuzzy Menu Screen
Many PC users who have either an integrated video card or an outdated video card have experienced problems with the menu and gameplay screens appearing all black, although the menu buttons may remain visible. If the screen isn't all black, it may be fuzzy or otherwise unclear. Options to fix this problem include updating the video card or possibly updating the drivers if you haven't done so in a while. You may replace the video card for a newer, compatible video card or replace the computer if the entire system is in need.
PC Menu Problems -- Game Crashing
Game crashes on PCs with Age of Empires III: Asian Dynasties are rare. Most users who experience game crashes seem to have had everything working fine until the the game suddenly freezes within moments of opening the program. This is often because the user changed a setting or updated a driver after the previous gaming session. The simplest fix is to go into your Age of Empires III: Asian Dynasties folder in My Games in the My Documents folder of your PC. Make a backup copy of that folder, then delete the original folder from your computer. When you reload the game, it will start with the original default settings. This often fixes the problem.
Just too Hot!
In PCs, the video card runs with its own RAM. As you play, heat produced in the video card components add to the heat inside the computer case, but this is not the only heat in the case. The CPU is also producing heat, and in regular computers the CPU tends to be the focus of cooling efforts. Additionally, the hard drive will heat up and all of the heat produced from long hours of playing the game can lead to problems within the game if sufficient cooling isn't provided. Gaming computers feature advanced cooling systems to help counteract this heat problem, but they are also considerably more expensive. Shut your computer down and allow it to cool off for several hours before trying again. Turning your computer off each night may also help prevent this from becoming a problem or worsening.
