How Do I Get Into the Spider Holes on Marine Heavy Gunner?

"Marine: Heavy Gunner: Vietnam" is 2004 first person shooter from Groove Games. In it, players take on the role of the eponymous marine heavy gunner as he single handedly wades through the entire Viet Kong army. During the course of his rampage, the heavy gunner confronts enemies who emerge and retreat into underground spider holes, and will at one point have to descend himself in order to go forward in the game.
