How to Edit Names in Medieval 2

The fourth installment in the "Total War" game series, "Medieval II" allows players to head a quest for power across medieval Europe. A rich gameplay experience that calls for battlefield leadership and a ruler's resourcefulness, "Medieval II" features the greatest kingdoms and rulers of Europe's turbulent history. Changing the name of a settlement or faction in "Medieval II" gives players the ability to create a customized gameplay experience. The ability to change names on the game is located within the game files, requiring some minor text edits.

  Locate the "Medieval II" files on your computer. The game's installer normally places these files in an applications folder on your hard drive.

  Locate the file marked "desc_names.txt" and right-click on this file. Select a text editing program, such as Microsoft World or TextEdit, to open this file.

  Scroll down through the list of names and replace any names you wish to change. Save this file without altering the file format.

  Open the "names.txt" file by right-clicking and selecting a text editor. This file contains the instructions on how to display names. Make changes to this file so that it matches the changes made to the "desc_names.txt" file.

  Save the file, then restart "Medieval II" to have the changed names take effect.
