How to Change a Tag on Steam

On Xbox, it's called a GamerTag, and on PlayStation it's called a Network handle. Gamers everywhere know it as a tag, however, and it represents you online -- the name of your online character or profile. Through Steam, it's easy to change the name you display online, and many people do it to match the game they're playing, or to advertise the clan or guild that they play with. Knowing how to change your tag on Steam means that you don't have to be stuck with a bad or outdated name.

     Open your "Friends" list by right-clicking the Steam icon in the system tray, located on the bottom right of your screen.

     Right-click on your current name, and select "Change Profile Name..." from the drop-down menu.

     Replace your current name with whatever you like in the "Profile name" field to the right of your avatar. There are no restrictions on what your name may be, and it doesn't have to be unique. Click on "OK" to finalize changes.
