How to Mod Dawn of War Chaos Rising

"Dawn of War 2: Chaos Rising" is a stand-alone expansion pack to "Dawn of War 2," meaning it can be played without the original game. Relic developed "Chaos Rising," and THQ released the expansion in March 2010. If you've already played through the campaign and want to spice up your experience, consider modding the game. Mods, or modifications, can do anything from tweaking settings to adding entirely new content. (See Resources.) You can download and install mods for the game yourself.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate your downloaded mod files. Check your downloads folder, or find the "Downloads" screen in your Internet browser. If you know the name of the file, you also can click "Start" and type the name into the search field.

    • 2

Open the file in an extractor if you downloaded the mod in a compressed archive format. For example, your mod might be called "chaosmod.zip" or "chaosmod.rar." If the files are in an uncompressed folder, locate that folder.

    • 3

Open any "Readme" files that are included in the download mod. Some mods may have specific installation instructions. Read the file to find the launch option command. For example, the "Campaign Wargear Unlocker" mod has the launch option command "WargearUnlocker."

    • 4

Place or extract all of the mod files into your "Chaos Rising" installation directory. Depending on the mod, you may be asked to overwrite files. Click "Allow" or "Permit" if a box opens asking whether you want to overwrite files. Follow any special installation instructions for your particular mod.

    • 5

Locate your "Chaos Rising" launch shortcut. It may be on your desktop, listed in your "All Programs" list or in your Steam games library.

    • 6

Right-click the shortcut if it is on your desktop or in your "All Programs" list. Click "Properties." Write the following at the end of the target box, substituting the launch option name provided in the "Readme" file for "mod command name": -modname "mod command name" -def.

The full line might look like this: "C:\Program Files\Chaos Rising\chaosrising.exe" -modname "mod command name" -dev.

Find the game in your library if you are a Steam user, right click it, then click "Properties." Click "Set Launch Options." Type the following into the box, substituting the launch option name provided in the "Readme" file for "mod command name," then click "OK": -modname "mod command name" -dev
