How to Apply a Manual Patch to World of Warcraft

"World of Warcraft" is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game for the PC that allows players to battle it out as members of either the Alliance or the Horde. However, to continue playing the game every month, players must pay $14.99 (as of June 2011). In return for these monthly payments, Blizzard, the game's developer, frequently releases patches for the game. The in-game client automatically downloads and installs these patches, but the downloads tend to be much slower than if you were to download and install the patches yourself.

Extract the downloaded files. When you manually download a patch for the game, it will more than likely come in a compressed folder. To extract the files, right-click the folder, click "Extract," and choose any location to place the files. You may use the file extraction program of your choice, such as WinZip, WinRAR or ExtractNow.

Double-click the application patch file you downloaded. The installer will open, prompting you to click "Continue."

    • 3

Review the patch notes. Click the "terms of use" box near the bottom of the window, and click "Start" to install the patch. The patch can take a few seconds to a couple of hours depending on the size of the patch. The next time you start the game, it will detect the patch and send you to the normal login screen.
