How Do You Win in Civilization IV?

There are six victory conditions that players can use to win the game in "Civilization IV." There is a mix of military and peaceful means to win the game that allow you to approach each match differently. These conditions apply to each game you play, unless the rules set for your specific game have disabled some of them. Press "F8" to open the "Victory Conditions" menu to see which methods to win the game are permitted and your progress toward each one.

Instructions

- 1
  Achieve the highest score when the game ends in 2050 AD to win the game through a time victory. Your score increases when you increase your conquered land mass, expand your population, research technology and build wonders of the world.

  Eliminate all of your rivals' cities to win the game with a conquest victory. You win the game as soon as the last city is destroyed or captured.

  Control two-thirds of the world map and have a population that is at least 25 percent greater than any of your opponents to achieve a domination victory.

  Get 50,000 culture points in three of your cities to give them the "Legendary Culture" status and achieve a cultural victory. Construct cultural buildings, such as libraries, temples and wonders of the world, to increase a city's culture score.

  Research rocketry, computers, robotics, genetics, satellites, fiber optics, fusion and ecology, then build all necessary space ship components. Launch the space ship before any of your rivals can launch theirs to win the game with a space race victory. Press "F8" to see what components you still need to build.
- 6
  Receive enough votes from other civilizations to become Secretary General of the United Nations. Call a vote on the "Diplomatic Victory" resolution. The civilization with the majority of the votes wins the game.
