How to Get the Hand of Dawn Mod in Oblivion

"The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion" for the PC has a large collection of user-created mods. Mods are extensions or downloadable content created by fellow "Oblivion" players. Unfortunately, modding is only possible on the PC version of the game, not the console versions. The "Hand of Dawn" mod adds an original quest to the game where you try to find two rings based on a series of clues found throughout the land of Cyrodiil. The rings respectively grant and remove a modified version of "Oblivion's" Vampirism disease.

  Open your computer's Web browser and go to "TESNexus.com." Scroll down and find the "FIle Search" bar on the right, typing "Hand of Dawn" into the search bar and hitting "Enter."

  Select "Hand of Dawn" or "Hand of Dawn v11," which is actually version 1.1, not 11. They're almost the same, though the second one makes finding the clues to get the rings easier.

  Click the "Files" tab and select "Hand of Dawn." A new pop-up window comes up displaying an advertisement. Another pop-up appears after the ad asking if you want to open or save the file. Choose to save it.

  Navigate to where the file was saved on your computer and open it with your .rar reading program. Right-click it if double-clicking doesn't open it automatically. Select "Open With" and select the program .rar reading program.

  Click the "Start" orb, "Computer" and double-click your C: Drive. Navigate to "Program Files," "Bethesda Softworks," "Oblivion" and "Data." Find the folder where you saved it if you did not install "Oblivion" to the default installation location.

  Pull your .zip program up again and drag "Hand of Dawn.esp" into the "Data" folder. Close the .rar reader. Click "Back" and double-click "OblivionLauncher" in the "Data" folder.

  Click "Data Files" and put an X in the box next to "Hand of Dawn.esp." Press "OK" when done. Click "Play" and start your "Oblivion" game as normal. Head to the Imperial City's Market District and enter the "First Edition" book store.

  Open the chest on the floor to your left. Take the book inside to begin the quest. Follow your new Journal entry to the next clue in the quest.
