How to Install Counter-Strike 1.6

"Counter-Strike 1.6" is an online first-person shooter that requires Steam, the free matchmaking and content distribution service for all versions of "Counter-Strike." Benefits of using Steam include its auto-patching system, which keeps the game up-to-date, and its built-in friends list. There are two ways to install "Counter-Strike 1.6" on Steam, by using a CD key from the older retail version of the game or purchasing the game digitally from the Steam store.

Instructions

CD Key

  Open the Steampowered website. Click the "Install Steam" button. Click the "Install Steam Now" button. Double-click the "SteamInstall.msi" file to begin the installation. Follow the instructions on-screen to complete the Steam installation.

  Click the "Start" button in the Windows taskbar. Click "All Programs." Click "Steam." Enter the email address and password associated with your Steam account and press the "Enter" key. If you don't have a Steam account, click the "Create an Account" button and enter the information requested on-screen. After signing in, the Steam application window will open.

  Click "Games" at the top of Steam. Click "Activate a Product on Steam." Click "Next" to agree to the Terms of Use. Enter the "Counter-Strike" product key found on the inside of the game's CD case and click "Next." The game will be synchronized to your Steam account and added to the Games section in the Library.

  Click the "Library" tab. Double-click "Counter-Strike" to begin the installation.

  Click the "Store" tab. Type "Counter-Strike" into the search bar. Click "Counter-Strike." Click the "Add to Cart" button. Click "Complete Checkout." Enter the personal information requested on-screen, such as your credit card and billing information. Click "Confirm this Purchase." The game will be synchronized to your Steam account and added to the Games section in the Library.
