Restart your computer after installing the patch.
Click on the "Start" menu, select "Fallout 3" and run the game. Watch the introduction and follow the in-game instructions to begin a new game.
SecuROM Errors
Disable any third-party disc mounting programs if necessary. Some players receive an error that reads "SecuROM has determined that emulation tools like 'Alcohol 120%' or 'Daemon Tools' are running. Please be informed that SecuROM protected applications will not work with such tools." when starting the game. This is because "Fallout 3" is a SecuROM protected game. Disc mounting programs are useful if you don't want to insert a game disc every time you play, but they are also commonly used by people to run illegally copied programs. You must use your official "Fallout 3" game disc to run "Fallout 3."
Download the "Fallout 3" SecuROM patch from the SecurROM website if, after disabling third-party disk mounting programs, you continue to experience programs running "Fallout 3."
Follow the instructions that come with the SecuROM patch to install the patch into your "Fallout 3" game directory.
Restart your computer after installing the patch and start "Fallout 3" again.
Game Crashing at Start Error
Click on the "Start" menu, select "Fallout 3" and locate the "ffdshow" folder. Alternatively, go to "Computer" or "My Computer," click on the "Fallout 3" folder and locate the "ffdshow" folder. Open the "ffdshow" folder.
Click "Audio decoder configuration" and then click "Info &Debug."
Check the option marked "Don't use ffdshow in:" Type "fallout3.exe" into the box next to the "Don't use ffdshow in:" option. If there is already a file typed into the box, add a ";" after the first file and type in "fallout3.exe" directly after the ";" without using any spaces.
Click "OK."
Restart your computer and start "Fallout 3" again.
