Things You'll Need
Instructions
Left-click repeatedly to continually hit a tree until a part of it falls apart, rewarding you with a tree trunk. Hit the whole tree to get several trunks.
Open your inventory and place four tree trunks in your crafting box. This turns them into wooden planks. Place four planks in the crafting box to create a workbench. Equip the workbench and left-click wherever you want to drop it.
Right-click the dropped workbench to use it. You will be presented with a three by three grid. Place a wooden plank in the middle square as well as in the square immediately beneath it. Push "craft" to turn these into sticks.
Place planks in each square of the top row. Place a stick in the middle square as well as the square immediately beneath it. Craft this pattern to create a wooden pickaxe.
Equip the wooden pickaxe and left-click the ground to start mining. You'll quickly mine cobblestone. Return to the workbench and make new pickaxes, filling the top row with cobblestone instead of planks.
Continue mining. Eventually, you'll start mining coal and then you'll get iron. Mine at least three bars of iron, but ideally more.
Return to the workbench. Fill the grid with cobblestone, excluding the middle square. This creates a forge. Equip the forge and drop it wherever you like. Place coal in the middle of the forge and ignite it. This activates the forge.
Place the iron in the forge to smelt it into iron bars. Make more pickaxes using iron bars in the top row instead of cobblestone. These pickaxes are capable of mining redstone.
Return to your mine and dig deep. Redstone is only found in the deepest reaches of the earth. It's easily distinguished from normal stone by its red color. Hit it with an ironaxe and it will drop small red cubes. This is red dust. Touch it to pick it up.
