How to Cast a Spell in Kings Quest III: To Heir Is Human

Play through the game until you have collected the necessary ingredients for the spell you'd like to cast, as listed in the instruction book. Some items can be picked up while exploring houses and the wilderness, while others must be purchased at a shop. Return to Mannan's house --- where you started the game --- and go down to his laboratory.

Walk up to the large spellbook on the table on the south side of his lab. From here you'll need to enter the spell details exactly as written in the instruction book. For example, if you want to cast the spell Understanding the Language of Creatures, start by typing "look page II". The spellbook has to be on the correct page for each separate spell, the pages are all listed as Roman numerals and you have to hit "Enter" after each sentence.

Type and submit (press "Enter") "put feather in bowl", then "put dog fur in bowl". Type "put snake in bowl", then "put bone in bowl" and finally "put dew in bowl". Type "mix with hands" to combine the ingredients. You can use either upper- or lowercase letters for your instructions, and your commands can vary slightly so long as you clearly indicate your intent.

Type "separate mixture into two pieces", then "put dough in ears". A text box will appear in the center of the screen where you'll need to enter the entire incantation:

"Feather of fowl and bone of fish

Molded together in this dish

Give me wisdom to understand

Creatures of air sea and land"

Then, type "wave wand" to cast the spell.
