How to Increase Your Chance of Pearlescent Drops in Borderlands

"Borderlands" is a multiplayer first-person shooter developed by Gearbox Software and released by 2K games. Players create a custom character and venture through the newly discovered world of Pandora in search of riches and information. "Borderlands" features a loot system that awards players with randomly generated items whenever they defeat an enemy or open a treasure chest. Items are ranked using a color coded rarity system. The rarest items are called "pearlescent" items.

  Load your saved game data.

  Equip any items with the "+Rare" attribute. There are a number of bonus attributes that an item can have in "Borderlands." Items with the "+Rare" attribute increase the likelihood of finding a rare item. The "+Rare" attribute can stack with itself, meaning your chance of finding a rare item increases with every item you equip with the attribute.

  Complete the main storyline to permanently increase your likelihood of finding rare items. The rarity of items is directly proportional to your character's level. The higher level your character is, the more likely you are to find a pearlescent item. Completing the main storyline will open up new content and increase the level of all enemies in the game.

  Check every treasure chest. Treasure chests contain random items regardless of where they are located. This means that a treasure chest in one of the opening locations of the game is just as likely to contain a pearlescent item as a treasure chest in one of the final locations of the game. Treasure chests respawn over time, so backtrack to earlier sections of the game in search of rare items when possible.
