Begin the battle with Maze in the Hook Coast Abbey. Maze primarily uses a long-distance fireball attack that can be dodged if you see it coming, a lightning attack that does approximately 100 damage and an "Enflame" attack that does 300 damage. "Enflame" is an attack that circles the area around Maze with fire, so jump out of range if he uses this attack. Maze also uses a physical shield that briefly prevents him from taking any damage, so don't bother attacking him when he's surround by a blue energy field.
Attack Maze physically when his blue energy shield is down. He uses this shield only occasionally and you'll have several opportunities to attack him when he's vulnerable. If you're primarily an archer, use your arrows to attack him from a distance, but keep moving or you'll risk being hit by one of this energy attacks. Cast your own "Physical Shield" spell if you're a mage and attack Maze with your versions of his own spells. Keep attacking Maze when possible until he teleports away.
Chase after Maze and attack him again. Attack him with arrows if you have them, as he gets much farther away from you when he teleports and is not close enough to use him normal magical attacks on you. Follow the gold dot on the game map in the upper right corner of the screen if you lose track of where Maze has teleported. Maze will also summon Screamers to attack you, but they can be defeated with conventional physical attacks. Keep attacking Maze when possible until he has retreated to a lighthouse.
Smash through the door of the lighthouse and attack him inside. He will teleport back outside, but follow him and keep using various methods to attack him. Continue attacking him until he is defeated and you will see a short scene showing the death of Maze.
